FMM: How I Met and Fell in Love with a Long-Haired Hooligan

So this week's Friend Makin' Monday challenge over at Kasey's place is to write about your love story. It's her and her hubby's 7-year Anniversay so follow the link (click her name or that cute button above and it will take you there) and wish them a happy day.

So...

How a young women I met and fell in love with the long-haired hooligan Jimmy.

Once upon a time there was a very young woman, nineteen to be exact, who had returned for the summer from her first year of attending the University of her Dreams (BYU). Still somewhat melancholy over being away from all of her college friends, and maybe even pining a little over a couple of boys whom she was sure she would never see again, she thrust herself wholeheartedly into what she hoped would be a quick summer break.
Not long after she came home she agreed to go to a Singles church dance with her older sister. Curious of who she might find there her hopes were high and her mood was light.
Will there be another Brad waiting here for me? How about a guy as funny as Randy or one as smart as Scott? The young woman thought. Her mind flicked through the images of her clean-cut handsome crushes who had all recently gone on two-year Church missions.
As the girls walked through the front door shock and horror immediately overcame the young woman. For there, before her very eyes, was the hairiest and unkempt man she had layed eyes on for the past ten months.

Somewhat in shock and disbelief, the young woman froze in place as she whispered to her sister,

"If they all look like that, I'm not staying!"

Imagine the young woman's reaction when she walked into the Sunday School room the next day to find that same long-haired hooligan in there. That's good, thought the girl. Perhaps he'll learn a thing or two.
Well, someone learned a thing or two that day all right. As the class began the young woman was surprised into silence as that very man she had ridiclued the night before now stood at the front of the class and taught the lesson. More than one lesson was taught that day. His heart was true. His spirit was strong. The girl was humbled to admit she had foolishly judged him wrong.
A few weeks later it was the girl's good fortune to run into the Long Haired Man in the church parking lot. He approached her with his hand outstretched. She took it. They shook hands. Lightening could not have produced a bigger spark inside of her.

"Have we met before?" The Long Haired Man asked.

"No. I don't think so." The young woman replied. She wondered if Long Hair could tell how flustered she felt to realize he had still not released her hand.

With a serious look of consternation and deep thought on his face Long Hair replied, "I'm sure we've met before. You seem so familiar. It's those eyes. I remember seeing those eyes before."
That night Long Hair asked the young woman out on a date. No games. No gimmicks. No foolish mind tricks like most of the boys her age played. It didn't take long for the girl to realize how much she had been missing out on.
They met in May. They became engaged in July. They broke up in August (I know, I'm leaving out a million details but I figured this was getting long enough already!) and got re-engaged a couple weeks later (complete with a different ring and all!) and were happily married October 10, 1998 in the Salt Lake temple.

Eleven years and six children later, I couldn't be happier that a loving long-haired man was kind enough to look past the petty girl that I was and who--to this day-- is helping me become the woman I am supposed to be. And I couldn't be more happy that I chose a long haired hooligan to spend all of eternity with but as you can see...he cleans up well, too!

Thanks Holly! And does he read my blog? HA! Um, no. But sometimes I wish he would...think how much more we would have to talk about! And since I totally dissed a guy that reminds you of Jesus, does that make it a practically unrepentant sin? Hopefully not. :)
