Friend Makin' Monday: My BFF

LOVED this Friend Makin' Monday prompt today from Kelly at Outside My Kitchen Window! It is: Tell us about your BFF...
where did you meet,
was it BFF at first sight,
how long have you been friends, etc.
What makes him/her your BFF...
what is it about this person that makes him/her so special to you?
I met my BFF in sixth grade. I had recently transferred to another school district and knew absolutely nobody. Then I came across a girl I had known earlier in my childhood who introduced me to Rachel. (Thanks, Telsie!) I believe we clicked right away, as most good friends do. Trouble was, she already had a best friend. But that didn't stop me. I stole her away promptly and we've been best friends ever since (sorry, Amanda! okay, not really.)
The older I get and the more friends I have made and lost I am finally realizing that good friends, true friends, are a rare treasure. I think friendships tend to evolve and sometimes run their course as we grow older or move away. But sometimes, if we are lucky, we will have that one special friend who will be there through it all. And for me, that has always been Rach.
We've ridden the crazy hormonal rollercoaster of teenagehood together, whispered and giggled over highschool crushes, fell in love and got married to our sweethearts one month and five days apart. She was with me at the ultrasound of my first baby. She listened to my sobbing about marriage woes the entire first year of my marriage. She was there when I lost a baby (on her birthday) eight years later. We've laughed together, cried together, shared our secrets, fears, successes, and milestones. I cannot imagine my high school years without her and my adulthood would not seem complete without her, either. I hope my girls will all be as lucky as me in finding their "Best Friend Forever." Love ya, Rach!

This is great. I met my "best friend" in 6th grade, too, after changing to a new school. However, I'm always careful about calling her my "best friend" in front of all my other friends so as not to hurt anyone's feelings. I have a few other "best friends" through the years that I've bonded with through many different events. They're all special for one reason or another.

BY THE WAY, ATTENTION EVERYONE...if you use google reader to keep up with this blog, apparently you have to UNfollow and then immediately REfollow to get the feed jump-started again. And it takes a little time for it to re-start. My feed was still reading the old address even though I was still a follower and so nothing has been coming up. Weird! So...now my face shows as the very last to follow (sniff, sniff--but I'll still brag to be one of the first bloggers to fall in love with our dear Mama Nut.)

Hugs all around,

~Shaye

Shaye--I always thought a best friend was two things...the Best Friend (noun) and the best friend (adjective) and the adjective definitely varies from time to time depending on life circumstances and such. Good point and I'm glad you brought it up. One thing for sure is that I love and am thankful and would shrivel up and die (probably) without friends, even my bloggy buddies! :)

I didn't find my best friend till i got married!! And of course my mom and sister. But no girlfriends. Had TOO many bad experiences from 5th grade on to not get attached to girls.

awww, this made me email my friend and I will call her tomorrow! Great post.

I never had girl friends until I became an adult. My best friends were always guys. Now though I find I need female companionship. My BFF now is awesome and I adore her. We met at a local park when our kids bite each other! lol
