First, a confession.
You know those psycho crazy moms who sit on the sidelines of sports games screaming at their kids, or huffing and rolling their eyeballs at the parents of the other team? Sometimes you can even hear them groaning or arguing--rather loudly--at the referees? Yeah....that's totally me.
Now I know what you're thinking and I'm a trite surprised myself. This calm, collected, laid-back lady can really become quite a scene in the midst of a sports arena (or Boys and Girls Club, whichever the case may be!) Now don't get me wrong, I'm not normally competetive. I don't care what kind of house you have, if it's bigger or fancier than mine, what type of car you drive or how much money your husband makes. But throw my kid onto a sports team and stick me on the sidelines and the claws come out, baby! So, to that poor innocent mother who was cheering her little boy on as he elbowed my daughter in the face.....I apologize. If I would have met you in the checkout line at Wal-Mart I'm sure we would have been fast friends. But since we were unfortunate enough to sit next to eachother at the last basketball game....you know, the one where I pretended not to notice you were there and commented about your fouling kid and then argued with you about your team's ethics? Yeah....sorry about that. I'm really quite a nice person. Oh...and to Hali's basketball coach? Ummm....about that little scene you and I had at the last game, and the two games before that? My regrets as well. But I do see that you took my advice to heart and because of that I had my own personal victory tonight at the game.
I did not huff, eyeball roll, scream, yell, disagree with the referee, give dirty looks to the arrogant coach on the other side, throw popcorn at the parents on the other team (okay, I've never really done that one), or talk to the coach in a slightly elevated tone after the game. That's right folks. Even though the score was 21 to 5 (not in our favor!) I walked out of that gym victorious tonight.
But no guarantees for next time!

That is funny!!! I KNOW I will have trouble not doing that (walking out of the gym quietly). I yell at the ref's even at my younger sister's games. I know that will happen at my kids games. Like you, sports is something i really get into and not care about the other stuff. (cars, house, jobs). The joys of being a parent.... I cant wait :)
Good jujus Trish! You deserve a prize! I'm so proud of you.
Happy to report that another game went by last Friday and Yours Truly did not raise a huff, eyebrow or ruckus. Of course I did have to leave at half-time to go out with a friend, so you know......
